AIM-AHEAD & NCATS Training Program - Cohort 1
Call For Mentors
The AIM-AHEAD and NCATS Training Program is recruiting mentors for Year 1 Awardees. This program intends to increase researcher diversity in AI/ML by training individuals from diverse backgrounds who are committed to gaining proficiency in AI/ML data analysis and applying their expertise to benefit communities underrepresented in biomedical research.

Program awardees will have the opportunity to select a mentor from the AIM-AHEAD Consortium to provide support and guidance throughout the 8-month intensive training program. The AIM-AHEAD Mentors will be chosen from a pool of AIM-AHEAD Mentor applicants. The Mentor Application will be open through April 8, 2024. All selected mentors will be notified by April 15, 2024.
AIM-AHEAD Mentors
Eligibility Criteria for AIM-AHEAD Mentors:
- Expertise in AI/ML or statistical analysis or EHR analysis and/or clinical, social determinants of health expertise.
- Prior mentorship experience.
- Can come from different sectors such as industry, non-profit organizations, healthcare organizations, faith-based institutions, or academic institutions.
Expectations for AIM-AHEAD Mentors:
- Mentors will make time and effort commitments toward mentorship of the mentee.
- Mentors will facilitate access to expertise to conduct the work.
- Mentors will attend monthly check-ins with the mentees for research progress and review the mentee's monthly progress report.
- Mentors will provide mentees with field expertise and advice.
- Mentors will have regular communication with mentees and will add goals and tasks for mentees.
Terms and Conditions for AIM-AHEAD Mentors:
The Terms and Conditions include the benefits and responsibilities that the mentors agree to when they accept the AIM-AHEAD mentor role.
- Mentors should have Ph.D., MD or equivalent qualification (such as PharmD., DNP, or Dr.PH) or very strong expertise in AI/ML or statistical analysis or EHR analysis expertise and/or clinical, social determinants of health expertise.
- Mentors should be associated with an organization (educational institution, private sector, community organization, etc.). Mentors cannot be individuals without an organizational affiliation.
- AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center members are highly encouraged to serve as mentors for this program.
- Mentors will be in good standing with their organization.
- Mentors will adhere to AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center policies, termination, non-compliant agreements, and these terms and conditions.

- Click “Login to Get Started”
(You must create a new account as a “Mentor/Expert” if you do not have an account on AIM-AHEAD Connect). - Now, you have landed in the AIM-AHEAD and NCATS Training Program. Click the “Apply to become an Mentor” button to apply to be an AIM-AHEAD and NCATS Training Program Mentor.
- Complete the “Mentor Expertise Self Assessment” and click “Submit”.
- Review the Terms & Conditions and click “Agree & Confirm”.
- You have now completed your application to be a mentor for an AIM-AHEAD and NCATS Trainee. If you are selected, you will receive an email from AIM-AHEAD Connect indicating that a fellow has requested mentorship from you. All selected mentors will be notified by April 15, 2024.
